"War" may indeed be accompanied by some level of 'intelligence'.  As with 
most debates, definition of terms is important.  What is 'war' especially 
non-human activites that could be termed 'war.'  Most wars seem to be 
caused by greed, ego, fear and other mostly human attributes.  Other 
causes could be over-crowding, which may be something that animals 
experience when their environment becomes overpopulated.  Perhaps 
something from "The Human Zoo" might offer a clue, but I haven't read it for 
a long time.
