An alternative viewpoint is to note that you are correct as far as the
workstation market is concerned, but that is only a small market.

In terms of number of processors shipped the workstation market is dwarfed
by the embedded processor market. Sun might have a chance if they aim at
that marketplace.Of course, they'll still have to beat the existing
processors by, e.g. bytecodes/s or bytecodes/$ or bytecodes/mA, or some
other metric.

I don't know which will win
