   I had the same problem, on my 486 PC, all I do is have a DOS 6.X 
boot disk handy, whose autoexec.bat, or config.sys a void of any 
memory drivers of any kind.  Then stick that disk in the PC and boot 
up in real mode, and I can run ST/286 no problem.  Of course, you 
can't use Win95 at the same time! Oh well its not a perfect solution. 
 The reality is that ST/V 286 needs the processor to run in real 
mode, where as the emulated DOS environment of Win95 wants to work in 
protected mode....
