Seeking qualified candidates for the following and related positions.

POSITION DESCRIPTION. Senior software engineer to lead development of a
state-of-the-art production-management system for an overseas automotive
manufacturing facility to be built from scratch. This is a ground-floor
opportunity to lead a major project. The PMS will exploit distributed
object technology. The senior engineer will head a team of developers in
the United States and coordinate activities with a second development
team overseas.

SKILLS. The lead engineer must have consummate skills in object-oriented
software development, with particular experience in Smalltalk. At least
three to five years of substantive VisualWorks experience is required.
You should be a VisualWorks guru, or at least very close to enlightenment.
The candidate should be experienced with both relational and object
database systems. Unix fluency is essential. Experience with MacOS and
Windows is highly desired. Understanding of computer networking is also
highly desired. Fluency in Japanese and/or Korean will be a substantial
asset. (Fluency in English is required.) Experience with manufacturing
systems will be extremely beneficial; AFIPS certification will be viewed
favorably. Leadership and good communication and writing skills are very
important.

ENVIRONMENT. Development will be on high-powered HP/UX systems using
VisualWorks 2.0, Envy, and an object database (probably GemStone). The
venue is San Francisco. Occasional overseas travel may be necessary.
Salary will be highly competitive and commensurate with experience.
