Rich,
Given the fact that the implementation sometimes works, I would
look in the DocuTech FTP setup (your technician should know how to do
this), and see if it is set for "Type 1" or "Type 2" FTP parameters. Most
of the Sun OS 4.x s/w uses "Type 2" or "Enhanced" FTP, although the latest
version of Solaris (2.3 I think), and some other flavors of FTP seem to
require Type 1. If Type 1 is required, you can accept the defaults, or
edit some parameters dealing with handshaking, packet details and such.
Your Technician should be able to call the DocuTech hotline and find out
about the specifics, (assuming the SG s/w is supported). Your Silicon
Graphics support people should be able to help as well.
