Duties will include development of our highly available load-sharing system and planning of future work on the system to enhance its usefulness to internal customers. The following qualities are required for this position: - Strong background in computer science - BSCS or equivalent with enough experience to indicate strong ability, or MSCS - Experience programming in C++ and either Scheme (strongly preferred), some other dialect of Lisp, or a functional programming language - Understanding of distributed systems, with knowledge of ONC (formerly Sun) RPC - Strong knowledge of Unix from a user's prespective (Solaris 2.x and SunOS 4.x preferred) - Experience with software development under Unix (use of source control systems, make, etc.) - Experience with at least one project spanning several tens of thousands of lines of code The ideal candidate will also possess some or all of the following qualities: - Experience with, or willingness to learn, the Java programming language - GUI programming experience under Unix and X Windows (Tcl/Tk, STk, Motif, Open Windows) - Some level of research or commercial experience in distributed systems preferred - Understanding of the TCP/IP protocol suite - Experience with Unix scripting languages and tools (Bourne shell, Perl, awk, sed, etc.) - Some degree of system administration experience would be helpful Self-motivation and ability to work effectively as a member of a small team strongly desired.
