Research Engineer (Automatic Speech Recognition)

Position No. B02/04

The Speech Technology Research Group requires a suitably qualified engineer
or computer scientist with DSP experience to work primarily on an ARC funded 
project on automatic recognition of accented Australian English speech.  The 
Group is one of Australia's largest in the area, and takes a multidisciplinary
approach to problems in automatic speech recognition, speech synthesis, and 
speech understanding.

The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. or equivalent in a suitable
discipline, and research experience in DSP, automatic speech recognition,
preferably using Hidden Markov Models.  Advanced C programming experience,
preferably in a UNIX environment, good spoken and written English, and proven
ability to work cooperatively in a group are also essential.  Familiarity with
Entropic/Waves software is desirable.

The position is available for 2 years commencing 1st February 1995, with the 
possibility of renewal, subject to need and funding.  Membership of a
University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for
new appointees.
