Georgia Tech sponsors a robotics contest every year (in July this year)
where the tasks must be performed by a flying robot. I believe most use a
R/C helicopter with a rf link to an off-board pc. To date no-one has
achieved more than a few seconds of hover prior to losing control and
returning control of the heli to a safety pilot. I have not seen it myself
but understand it is very interesting.
