Yes, I build a hexwalker kit from an outfit here in SoCal.
It was not hard to build for an experienced electrical hobbiest
and machinist.  Each leg has a single degree of freedom, or 
more properly a half degree of freedom, since three servos
power and control six legs.  I don't think this has very much
payload, but is fun as a starting project.  I built it as a
gift for a lady friend.
