: &This is TC Yang from UCLA, USA. Recently I am working on the FAQ for
: &the Usenet newsgroup "soc.culture.taiwan", and I would like to know
: &if you can recommend me with a book ( better if with some tape ) for
: &people to learn Hakka. Of course it might be better if you can recommend
: &one source for foreign people ( like ordinary Americans who knows nothing
: &about Chinese ) and another source for people like me, who knows Mandarin
: &and a little Taiwanese but not Hakka.
: &
: &If you are willing to help me, please send me an E-mail ( in English )
: &to "tcyang@ee.ucla.edu" or "hifi@ee.ucla.edu". I don't have the Big-5
: &environment here and it is indeed tough for me to read news across the
: &Pacific ( UCLA does not carry the newsgroup tw.bbs.soc.hakka ). I also
: &tried to find the FAQ for this newsgroup but to no avail.

: &Thanks for your help in advance.

A Hakka newsgroup is coming!!! (or in planning). You probably can read/write
postings in English, Chinese(BG and Big5); and Hakka dialect in audio too!
All on the internet. We try to standardize the audio and video formats
so these media can be accessed economically and freely.

: I am "planning" to propose a newsgroup:
: alt.chinese.hakka or soc.culture.hakka
:
: to discuss hakka affairs. Is there a newsgroup already? I do not
: know. There are many overseas hakka chinese and hakka clans around
: the globe. I am polling now to see if we can generate the minimum
: readership.
