I do not regard the statement as true. I cannot see any reason why all
things should have a cause.

This does not result the collapse of my system of knowledge. If I am
asked how I know the sun exists, I would reply that I know it exists
because I perceive it. And if you say how do I know that my
perceptions have any cause, I would say it is of no consequence, since
the phrase 'the sun exists' means that there are a set of impressions
which I can refere to as 'the sun'. That is all that can be meant
when one says that any object exists. One cannot know anything of the
underlying cause of those impressions or even if there is one.
