Actually, it was first heard from a shelled spectator in the famous tortoise 
versus the hare race, home stretch.  The original was yelled with some derision
as in:
	"Ha! Its turtles all the way down, clown."

Or was it Magellan's comment on his last meal, looking with pleasure into
the soup toureen?
	"Mmm.  Its turtles all the way down!"
