Subject: FOGA announcement

FOUNDATIONS OF GENETIC ALGORITHMS, 1994
   Estes Park, Colorado
   July 30 to August 3, 1994

The 1994 Foundations of Genetic Algorithms (FOGA) workshop will be
held in Colorado, July 30 to August 3, 1994. The location of the
workshop will be Estes Park, just outside Rocky Mountain National
Park. A reception will be held July 30, with regular workshop
activities beginning July 31.

Attendance at the workshop will be limited to approximately 60
participants. The goal is to create a small forum with close
interaction among the participants. All individuals who submit
papers will be given priority for attendance, and some slots
will be reserved for students. All individuals interested in
attending must indicate this by either 1) submitting a paper,
or 2) requesting attendance. If more than 60 individuals wish
to attend, a short statement of research interests and relevant
publications may be requested.

The paper submission deadline for FOGA (as well as for requests
for attendance) will be February 1, 1994. Submissions should be
no longer than 10 pages (12 point fonts) and should address
theoretical issues in genetic algorithms and evolutionary computation.
Experimental papers will be given a lower priority and are subject
to rejection on the basis that such papers are not the primary
focus of the FOGA workshop.

The papers of the FOGA -3- workshop will appear as an collection
edited by Darrell Whitley and Michael Vose. The exact format of
the 1994 publication is still undecided. Previously, FOGA has
published expanded papers after two rounds of editing. If the
quality and quantity of submitted papers permits, this format
will also be used for FOGA 94. However, if the program committee
feels the quality and quantity of publications does not merit
publishing expanded papers, a more conventional workshop
proceedings will be published with the original 10 page limit
on the size of papers. Some papers submitted to FOGA may also be
recommended to the journal "Evolutionary Computation" for publication.
Decisions on accepted papers and the publication format are expected
by April 15, 1994.

Paper submissions and inquires may be directed to:

Darrell Whitley,
Department of Computer Science,
Colorado State University,
Fort Collins, CO 80523, whitley@cs.colostate.edu.
