Subject: This is the 100th issue of GA-List!!!!

Well, I didn't think this occasion should pass without
at least a mention: This is the 100th issue of the
	GA-List to be published!

I would have planned a "special issue" of some sort
for the occasion, but with the conference in less than
a week, and with some messages in the queue that had to
get out right away, the party will have to wait. Maybe
we should have a toast at the conference?

Subject: A ride to San Diego

I am arriving at Los Angeles on July 10 and looking for a ride down
to San Diego. Is there anyone who is going from or through L.A.
which I can join to San Diego?

Many thanks, and please respond if applicable ASAP,

Subject: Theory workshop at ICGA91

Workshop on Theory of Genetic Operators

I am organising a theory workshop at ICGA91. Please get in
touch if you are interested in participating so that I can
try to structure it appropriately. Given that there is no
other workshop on theory scheduled, I am quite happy to interpret
`of genetic operators' loosely, but the focus should remain
    `theory' and `genetic algorithms'.

    Format

There will be a few short presentations, but I would like to keep
as much time as possible available for general discussion of the ideas
circulating at the conference. I would not, therefore, expect to finalise
the details of a schedule until the conference is underway.

Subject: A note on TSP and optimization

The state of the art in TSP problem solving is over 1000 cities. Padberg
and Rinaldi ( Siam Review) solve the problem exact, Johnson (At&t) uses a
fast heuristic. We have solved the TSP upto 532 cities three years ago
with the parallel genetic algorithm. Why are people still working with TSP
instances of 30 till 100? These problems are considered to be toy problems
in optimization. If the GA community is willing to face the competitiion
to other heuristics, then it makes no sense to investigate toy problems.
The best proof of our conviction that the GA search is competitive or even
better than other search methods is to solve the state of the art problems
   in optimization!

So please, no GA research with less than 500 cities. The same argument
applies to function optimization and other problems!
