I'll be on vacation for the next few weeks, so Lashon will be handling
the list. It's been a while since I sent out an up-to-date list of
GA-List members, so I've included one at the end of this issue.

If you are looking for a way of meeting other list members at AAAI
(in addition to the machine learning sessions), you might want to
use the NCARAI booth in the exhibit area as a focal point.

I vote for BibTeX. I think everyone will be in TeX sooner or later (so
the conversion effort is worthwhile) and it's more inclusive that Refer.

Members working with classifier systems may be interested
in some recent work of mine written up in "Classifier system
learning of a boolean function," a Rowland Institute
research report which is available if you contact me.

I applied a stripped down CS to the problem of learning a
rather tricky boolean function. Andy Barto attacked the
same function using his ARP network, so comparison was of
interest; the CS learned in fewer trials. In addition
I was able to get useful information about the dependence
of learning rate and selection pressure on several basic
        parameters.

I hope others will also advertise this way the availability
of new work which they would like to share.

We have just mailed a request for the latest TeX distribution,
which I'm told contains the BibTeX software and documentation.
I will use it as the format for the genetic algorithm bibliography.

Dave,
I think the GA Clearinghouse is a great idea. Your announcement
reminded me of several things that we might/should make more accessible:

	1. During 1976-81 we had a series of summer GA workshops.
Presentations were informal and generally verbal. However,
there were some handouts and an attempt was made to
summarize the discussions. I think I have files on this
which we could organize for TCGA if you think it is appropriate.

	2. I had a recent conversation with Art Wetzel in which he
promised to send me the latest copy of his dormant thesis.
	   However, nothing yet ...

I assume you and Lashon are working to get the bibliography in a machine-
readable format. Thanks for all the work!

Ken

Subject: 2nd GA Conference

It's time to begin planning the second GA Conference. Suggestions for
sites, dates, content, format, etc. are solicited. Perhaps anyone
getting together at AAAI could spend some time brain storming.
