A lot of effort has gone into defining life in this group. However, that
isn't the purpose of this group. This group is about ALife. Let us
define Alife (the purpose of this group), and later ( _much_later_ :-))
have a debate about the relationship between ALife and Life.

My definition of ALife comes from trying to work out what it is that
facinates me about it. My definition is:

"A experimental approach to the study of emmergent behaviour, and its
propogation over time in dynamic systems."

Perhaps some would like to remove the work "experimental" but to do
so, IMHO, just makes it into another (interesting) part of pure
mathematics.

It probably needs an additional clause to make it clear that ALife is
more than just GOL.
