Printing on Windows hosts

Most Facilities-installed Windows hosts will come deployed with one or networked printers already installed. If you need to install additional printers, most of the printers on our printer lists are available for installation through the server monolith.srv.cs.cmu.edu.

Installing printers

If you know which printer you wish to install, you can use the Printers and Faxes control (available as a Control Panel item or under the Start menu) to install the printer. To do so:

  1. Open the Printers and Faxes control.
  2. Select "Add a printer" under Printer Tasks
  3. Use the AddPrinter Wizard to add the named printer: \\monolith\printername

You can also browse for printers on monolith:

  1. Open the Printers and Faxes control.
  2. Select "Add a printer" under Printer Tasks
  3. Instead of specifying a name for the printer, leave the dialogue box blank and click "Next".
  4. In the resulting list, double-click on "SCS" (if it is not already expanded) and then double-click on "MONOLITH". You should see a list of printers.
  5. Select the printer you want.
