[New Service] Data Protection for Laptops

In response to your feedback, SCS Computing Facilities is pleased to announce a new service for data protection on mobile devices.

The SCS Data Protection service syncs up to 250 GB of your data to a secure, locally maintained storage system whenever your laptop is connected to *any* network. It is no longer necessary to be on the wired SCS or Carnegie Mellon network to protect your most important files.

Unlike traditional backups, this is a data protection service that captures data files (Office base documents, images, PDFs, etc) and allows self-service retrieval of those files when the need arises.

The SCS Data Protection service is available to SCS users whose laptops carry a CMU asset tag and is running one of the SCS Computing Facilities supported Operating Systems. This service is available for a rate of $15 per month. Unlike our traditional backup solution (TiBS), software and network support are not required to subscribe to the SCS Data Protection service.

To subscribe to the SCS Data Protection service, simply reply to this email with the asset tag of the laptop you wish to register. An SCS Help Desk Consultant will then guide you through the process.

More information is available by contacting the SCS Help Desk at x8-4231 or help@cs.cmu.edu or at:
