The Vertigo Shot

Background

The main purpose of this assignment is to take a series of photos that generate the dolly zoom effect and create an animated GIF file to demonstrate the final result more clearly. The pictures were taken with Nikon D40 with 18-55mm lens and The GIF animation was created at http://www.makeagif.com/ with frame length of 25ms and resolution of 1024*768. In both sequence, I advanced the camera towards the object.

Conclusion

One of the biggest challenges were keeping the objects centered which could be resolved by using a tripod. Although the overall dolly zoom effect can be seen through the animated GIF files, it would look a lot smoother and cleaner if the images were centered. Although it wasn't a problem for the two sequences above, lighting and picture quality were a problem as well. Some sequences demonstrated the dolly zoom effect very well but some slides had different lighting than others or had different focuses which got in the way of seeing the overall effect. If the pictures were taken in a closed environment where i can control the lighting, the results of those sequences would've been better.
