This assignment was interesting given the fact that I had a 10 year old canon powershot a80 with a 1 inch LCD screen and tiny viewport. Because of this, I could not see what I was doing very well and had to estimate very broadly the correct position/orientation of the camera to fully achieve the desired effect. Thankfully it had a 3x optical zoom so it was minimally sufficient to do this assignment. Also please forgive the horrible image quality in some of the brighter pictures where my camera thinks that the sky is pink.
Another difficulty was finding a good subject. I noticed that the effect worked best with a small or transparent foreground subject with a far away and large background. In my first couple of tries, my background was too close or my subject was too large. I was also really bad at approximating width so some just look like straight zooming in
Additionally, I experimented with moving subject which presented some interesting problems. Moving subjects had the issue of not looking the same in every picture, so it looks a bit awkward. For example, I tried a human subject, but posture and wind effects differed in each picture. I also tried a bottle, but it was difficult to make sure it had the same orientation in every picture.
I had the most sucess with static subjects once I had a bit of practice and became more accustomed with how the effect works. In my favorite one of a statue and fountain, the subject is large enough in the picture that it blocks the trees behind it, which appear to grow out of the edges in the sequence. The park sequence also looks pretty good due to the far away background, although I executed it poorly
All in all, I felt this to be an excersize in tedium and physical calibration. I hope to see more computation and less photography in the future.
