How it works

I did vertical seam carving on those images to scale it down from a width of 400 to a width of 300.

How it works

This result is particularly when we do horizontal seam carving as there is no clear seam. The detail in the water at the bottom of the picture makes the energy function greater so it is going to prefer using seams from the top of the image. This results in the image that we have where the top part of the image is cropped out.
