Colorizing the Prokudin-Gorskii photo collection



For this assignment I used the sum of squared differences and cropped off 20 pixles from each side of the picture to reduce the chances of an artificial match. My results would have been better if I would have programatically removed the borders. At each of they pyramid levels I check 4 pixels in all directions. A few of the images are rather off which is probably because of the metric used since anything full of one color like blue is going to be lacking in the other layers and therefore not be close to the same value. The large tif files didn't work very well because I think for one I didn't programatically remove borders so they still have the vast majority of their borders intact which would interfere. I had issues with actually acquiring the tif file, but my algorithm does run on it rather quickly...
