Project #0 : The Vertigo Zoom
Varun Ramakrishna

The Vertigo Zoom or Dolly zoom effect was achieved by taking pictures of the subject at different distances away from the subject with increasing zoom, thereby progressively decreasing the field of view as we move away from the subject. The camera used for this project was a compact Sony DSC W5.

The first set of images were of my roommated silhoutted against the opening of a tunnel. The tunnel location was chosen to emphasize the dolly zoom effect. However alignment of the subject in consecutive pictures proved to be a problem.

The second set of images were taken on a table top. Care was taken to ensure consecutive images of the subject were aligned by using a trace of the object on the camera's lcd screen to help with alignment.
