First, try to get ez to run on Person #1's machine to display on Person #2's display. You have already done the xhost + on Person #2's display, so you should be able to run "ez -display ptn:0.0", where ptn:0.0 is Person #2's display. Once you get that to work, you should find that Ctrl-U Ctrl X 2 will work. If you can't get ez to display on someone else's display, try some other application for which you are more familiar. NOTE: using ez this way does make a pretty good "talk" program, however you will find that the menus will block the process. That is, if one user pops up (or pulls down) the menus, the other person cannot type. Earlier versions of ATK also had bugs when deleting windows from remote displays. -todd inglett \bold{Date}: 03 Nov 94 12:59:58 EST \bold{From}: \bold{To}: \bold{Subject}: Solaris2.3 AUIS6.3.1 works like a charm on Solaris2.3 but you must use MIT X11 and not OpenWindows. These packages \bold{REPLACE} all versions previously available. I have grouped the full 40MB of compiled programs and data into several logical "packages". These should run on any Linux system using XFree2.x (I used Slackware 2.0.1 with the 1.54 Linux kernel). Note this will NOT WORK with the new XFree3.x release (unless you have shared libraries for compatibility with the older release). At some point in the near future, I will release another set of packages compiled for XFree 3.x system. The software has been configured for the relatively novice community. The software comes in tar files varying from 0.8MB to almost 4.0MB in size. Everything is based on the word processing package and only requires about 4.5MB after being extracted. \bold{The following packages are available:} auis63L3-wp.lsm Summary for EZ - the Word Processor auis63L3-wp.tgz Contains textviews, help, image, figure, raster, typescript, pipescript ... auis63L3-src.lsm Summary for EZ - for Source Code Development auis63L3-src.tgz Contains all the srcviews, bush... This should be true for anyone using a kernel >= 1.0.0. - This version requires XFree 2.x shared libraries - A new WYSLRN HTML-editor is now available. Finally a semi-decent interface for HTML documents. - Notes added for the German .Xmodmap (thanks to Oliver Mai ) - New comps file corrects printing large umlauts (thanks to Oliver Mai ) - Added the application \italic{org} to the -src package =================================================================== Software Toolsmiths Terry Gliedt tpg@mr.net MIME OK 507-356-4710 \ \bold{Date}: Wed, 9 Nov 1994 21:01:31 -0600 (CST) \bold{From}: Terry Gliedt \bold{To}: Dick Orgass \bold{Subject}: Re: Problem with messages for Linux \bold{CC}: info-andrew@andrew.cmu.edu Dick, I have two instances in the README of protential problems as you report. \quotation{When you first bring up mail, if you get an error dialog box with the message "\italic{Messages in ...../Mailbox could not be properly read and delivered (.....))}", then be sure to check the permissions of \bold{/usr/spool/mail/$USER}. If this fails, messages \italic{generates} the error you see. When you first bring up mail, if you get an error dialog box with the message "\italic{Messages in ...../Mailbox could not be properly read and delivered (.....))}", then the problem is that you have a "\italic{set hold}" in your \bold{/usr/lib/Mail.rc}. We do not believe that we can reuse AFS ids for terminated accounts because users may have added acls for the terminated users on directories in AFS (thus creating a potential security problem). So, our plan was to reuse uids from terminated accounts, but the second time a uid is reused, generate the AFS id by ORing the uid with 0x10000. So, if the uid is 2000, the AFS id would be 2000+65536, or 67536. However, we have discovered a problem with this scheme is in the mechanism that writes the 'X-Andrew-Authenticated-As:' lines in mail messages. Since this information is obtained by a stat of the file, only the lower 16 bits are available. The problem is that there is no match for that id in the White Pages (the White Pages has to have the AFS id, not the uid). We are stuck at this point. What we are considering doing is ANDing the viceid that is returned by the function getvuid() in overhead/util/lib/getvuid.c with 0xFFFF, and building the White Pages with the ANDed uids. We would guarantee that if all AFS ids and uids are ANDed with 0xffff, there would be no duplicates. Does anyone see a flaw in this or have any other suggestions? jeff \bold{Date}: Mon, 14 Nov 1994 15:24:39 -0500 (EST) \bold{From}: Ann Marie Zanger \bold{To}: Info-Andrew \bold{Subject}: Andrew Consortium office move The Andrew Consortium offices are moving to a new, improved location today, Monday, November 14th. It appears to create postscript when you issue the print command but the only option I can find is to give it the name of a printer. I'm assuming this means that it then issues a "lp -P". This would not work if you just gave it a filename (I don't think, guess I ought to try it). Anyway. I tried faxing an EZ document. It wasn't pretty. I need it to be in postscript to use Ghostscript on it. I'm not sure what I can do with it in native Andrew format. I tried "Preview" but once in ghostview, the save & print buttons are grayed out. I know it's got to be something simple that I'm overlooking. I even tried : "atkprint filename > filename.ps". It wasn't real happy with that either. I'm on a Linux system running AUIS63L2. I have everything that has been ported to Linux from that distribution installed. I think that equates to the following tar files: dev, wp, mail, src, doc Hope someone can help. thanks in advance.. I tried faxing an EZ document. It wasn't pretty. I need it to be in postscript to use Ghostscript on it. } There are several things you can try depending on how easy you want faxing to be. The most trivial solution is to use ez2ps to convert your document to postscript. If the Linux distribution didn't come with ez2ps, it would be something like the following command line: \example{ezprint -q -s -t myfile.doc | ditroff -Tpsc | psdit > myfile.ps } It is possible that the Linux version doesn't have \italic{ezprint}, and I know that it doesn't have \italic{ditroff} and \italic{psdit}. However, Linux does have \italic{groff} and if you can figure out how to get groff to work, you are done. Hint: the groff command line should be in the atkprint script, or in /usr/andrew/lib/global.prf somewhere. A better solution (or at least an alternative solution) is to modify the \italic{atkprint} or \italic{atkpreview} scripts. The \italic{atkprint} script is automatically invoked with troff source as stdin when you choose to print a document. You could replace the \italic{lpr} in it with code that writes the postscript to a file. It could do this if \typewriter{PRINTER = "fax"}. Better still, it could run \italic{ghostscript} with all the right options to actually create the fax image, and maybe even do the dialing for you! You could cleverly set it up to auto dial if you set your PRINTER = "fax:xxx-xxxx", where the x's make up the phone number. All you need to do is write a little shell code in atkprint. -todd inglett \bold{Date}: Thu, 17 Nov 1994 11:28:25 -0500 (EST) \bold{From}: Robert Andrew Ryan \bold{To}: Info-Andrew , sjhong@kttdx.kotel.co.kr (Hong Sung-Jun) \bold{Subject}: Re: how to make shared window in two system \bold{CC}: Bulletin Board Administration Excerpts from internet.other.info-andrew: 16-Nov-94 how to make shared window i.. The general strategy needed to get a shared window under AUIS is: On machine B: Get the Andrew fonts installed for the X server on this machine. (Run finger font-help@atk.itc.cmu.edu, or just finger help@atk.itc.cmu.edu for more info.) xhost the host name for machine A On machine A: Run ez. ^U^X^2, then enter the host name for machine B. Note that both windows have full privileges as whoever runs ez... Can you help me ? \ Yes, just add something like: \ addmenu textview-insert-inset-here "Media,Audio~7" textview textview noinherit " alink" \ Also make sure that the alink inset (in the contrib directory) is compiled. A shortcut is to type in the ez window and it will prompt for a data type, just type "alink". \ If you have mpeg_play and Xanim compiled for your sparc I modified the alink inset to store MPEG and Quicktime video. I could send you the code. \ Hope this helps, \ Eric freeman-eric@cs.yale.edu \bold{Date}: Tue, 29 Nov 1994 16:11:04 -0600 (CST) \bold{From}: \bold{To}: info-andrew@andrew.cmu.edu \bold{Subject}: ez (AIX/Linux) Howdy, I have been playing with messages and ez on a RISC 6000 and I have ez at home on a Linux box.
