<info-andrew+@ANDREW.CMU.EDU> Subject: date for Andrew Annual Conference
and Meeting
It seems that the dates chosen for the Andrew Annual Conference this
year overlap with the Usenix conference in Cincinatti.
Is this a problem?
Would it be preferable to change the dates to the following Wednesday
and Thursday, June 30-July 1? This would give people Friday to get away
early for a July 4 break..
Please let us know your thoughts as soon as possible. We will finalize
the date next week.

I apologize, but I have been out of touch with ATK culture for a half a
year now. (I also don't have access to the info-andrew bbs anymore,
either.) What I would like to know is: Has there been a new release of
the ATK software since 5.1? If not, when is the next planned release?
Thanks in advance. - Anthony

There has been a release to Consortium members of 5.2.0 and 5.2.1. Issue
3&4 of The Andrew View was accompanied by a list of the changes in 5.2.
In December, 5.2 will be released to the world on the X tape.

Is it possible to put insert in a normal view. I want to put several
textinsets together in one window, so they can't interact (eg. only
plainer inside a inset is possible). I don't need any stuff around these
insets.

Hi Everybody ,
Help Wanted !!
I am new andrew user, ( I built andrew recently) and having teething
problems .
I have some problems with "preview"
In the EZ edit panel it does not seem to work. When I select the
preview option it says "preview window should appear soon", but an
empty Window appears. The Window disappears immediately !
A note on my changes in DESTDIR (/pub/advos/aandrew/rootandrew) :
that is at DESTDIR/lib/global.prf :
   the commands I changed :
      *.Formatcommand: eqn -Tpsc /tmp/%s.n |psroff -Tpsc - |
*.PrintCommand: lpr *.PreviewCommand: preview
I have problem in printing ZIP & RASTER objects. The output of these
(when selected print from the window) is not in postscript format.
should I change/add anything in my "~/preferences" file?
Thanks
Ganesh

pictures in ez documents by insert file only, please elucidate
First insert an empty raster in the document by selecting Raster from
the Media menu. Then click in it and observe the menu for RasterI/O; it
offers options to read rasters in several formats. Additional formats
are covered by 'convertraster'; use 'help convertraster' to get
documentation. Still more formats are handled by the pbmplus software
available from servers in lots of places, including
emsworth.andrew.cmu.edu.
> 2) Is it possible to convert a Postscript file to convert into an ez

system
Yes and no. It is usually possible to convert PostScript files to ez,
but it is usually a lot of hand processing. Unfortunately the various
programs which generate PostScript files do so in different fashions, so
it is not really easy to write a general program to extract text from a
PostScript file. I usually get the jobdone by using a bunch of global
change operations on the PostScript file.

There is another way to select a printer: set the environment variable
PRINTER to the name of the printer. In csh this could be setenv
PRINTER macps6 this line could be in your ~/.cshrc
You should be able to set the printer queue by changing the
*.printcommand: line in your preferences file.

When I create a textinset with height borders bigger than the window the
sourounding (parent) view will fail scolling when I write in the not
visible part of this inset. - I don't see what I type. Is there any
solution to this problem? Can I write an own inset which forces it's
surrounding (parent class) to scroll?

Hi Everybody ,
Help Wanted !!
I am new andrew user. I have the following statements in my /etc/AndrewSetup
      andrewdir: /pub/advos/andrew/rootandrew Formatcommand: groff
-pte -E | PrintCommand: lpr -Plw218
PreviewCommand: cat>/tmp/print; gv /tmp/print; rm /tmp/print
Somehow ANDREW does not take the above options, (Initially I compiled
andrew with LOCAL_ANDRE_SETUP_ENV "filename", but andrew did not read
the Setup from there either, thats why I created setup file at /etc --
andrew's search path --)
Can anybody tell me where I am wrong ?
Thanks vey much in advance.

Hello. I'am investigating topics about multimedia on WorkStations. I
found Andrew on Internet and I have been reading the manuals. Could you
please tell me if there is any special part of Andrew to develop
multimedia aplications. I want to join video, sound, text, and

I'd like to read some of the Andrew *.doc and *.help files but I do not
want to build all of Andrew. Is there some filter in the Andrew

" | geqn - | gtbl - | gtroff -Tps - | grops | lpr" can use?

Hi Everybody,
I have some problem in printing the "chart" in Andrew. (I can get the
printout of other stuff - like raster, zip ). When I ask the printout of
chart through the pul-down menu, it says "chart printed". But the actual
printing is not done. Instead "/tmp/chart_print.PS" file is created.
Is chart printing is differet from other andrew printing? Is there any
preferences variables to set?
Thanks in advance for the help.

following is a copy of a message i sent to gripe@cs. the response was
to send mail to info-andrew@andrew. i was also advised to try vui using
/usr/misc/.atk/bin, which after a pause, only returned me to my prompt
instead of starting vui. the cs machines that i use run mach 3.0.
