The fellowship is available beginning 1 July 1996 and will be composed of various degrees of independent study, coursework, involvement in on-going research, and a research project of the fellow's choosing. Support will be for one year, with an additional year of support depending on appropriate justification and availability of funds. The faculty at the Philadelphia VAMC and University of Pennsylvania includes many leaders in the field of informatics, computer science and medical decision making, who can serve as collaborators and mentors. The ongoing research activities of these faculty provide diverse opportunities to develop and exercise research skills. Particular strengths include: decision support and medical decision making; Natural Language Processing; computer graphics (modeling, simulation and 3D visualization); and human-computer interaction.
