Charles E. Thorpe, Ph.D.

Dean of the Qatar Campus, Carnegie Mellon


Prior to being appointed dean of Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, Thorpe was director of the prestigious and internationally known Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, where he led a research group that developed autonomous research vehicles.

Thorpe received his bachelor’s degree in natural science from North Park College in Chicago Ill., and his Ph.D. in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University in 1984. In addition to serving as dean, Thorpe will be a member of the faculty, teaching Introduction to Mobile Robotics.
