Giving /The Friends of WOMEN@SCS Fund

The Women@SCS organization consists of undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty within the School of Computer Science (SCS).

The organization was created in 1999 to provide critical professional opportunities and encouragement for the growing community of women in computer sciences at Carnegie Mellon. Women@SCS now provides a thriving forum for role modeling and mentoring, and for young women to learn more about their future options in a rapidly changing field.

Women@SCS has initiated many programs to enhance the social, academic and professional life of women in the field of computer sciences. The Big Sister/Little Sister mentoring program has been cited as a model for other student-run organizations. The invited Speaker Series for graduates, strives to bring outstanding women from industry and academia to campus. The innovations of Women@SCS are beginning to shape the climate within the school of computer science for the benefit of all students, men and women. At the same time, Women@SCS is sponsoring outreach projects such as "The Outreach Roadshow" --a presentation for K-12 students, educators, and parents, and "Creative Technology Nights" --providing free weekly workshops for middle school girls in the Pittsburgh area. Women@SCS aspires to revolutionize the way women can contribute to, and help shape, the field of technology.
