Using the verbal version of this guide my 5 1/2 year old solved the game in 2:24 with 68%. I apologize in advance for calling the creatures by the wrong names and for my atrocious typing. CONTENTS I. Kill Mother Brain [remember that funny looking statue in Crateria] 24. Run back to your ship in less than 3 minutes II. BEATING BOSS CHARACTERS For other obnoxious characters see part III. Spore Spawn: I know he's not a boss but I had trouble. Morph into a ball and roll back and forth on the ground until he stops. Jump up on the ledge on the left and shoot him in the mouth with a missle. 7 (or 8) missles will kill him. If you run out of missles, shoot the spores to get more. Kraid: His weak point is his mouth, which you must hit while it is open. Three super missles or eight regular missles will do the trick. But you can also use a dozen hits from a powered up spazer. Crocmire: You have to shoot him in the mouth to drive him back until he falls in the lava. You can do this with missles but a powered up spazer has the advantage that it never runs out and when you shoot the things he throws at you you get power ups. Phantoom: His weak point is his eye, which can only be hit when it is open and he is solid. Try to shoot all the little blue things he fires to get missiles and energy, then hit him with missiles when you can. Draygon: Shoot the three bulges that are on the wall with three missles each (one is already broken). Put on the grappling beam, jump up and let him grab you when he is facing left. Grapple onto one of the broken bulges and electrocute him. You lose energy while doing this but only about 100 units. Ridley: If you have the Spring Ball you can soften him up with power bombs. They don't do that much damage but then again he doesn't hurt you much since you can stay in a ball the whole time. Next shoot him with supermissles and missles (anywhere but the tail) until he turns red and dies. Mother Brain: Shoot missles at the barricades fast to shrink them and get through Stand on the little step and jump and shoot the glass container until the picture changes and mother comes out. Now jump and shoot her with super missles and then missles in the head until you run out, and then switch to the powered up plasma beam. Jump and avoid the blue circles and later the bombs she throws. When little things come out of her head and she turns on her beam the second phase is over. If you survive being drained of energy by the beam, the Metroid hatchling will come and give you all of your health back and you will get the Hyperbeam. Blast her head until she's dead. Then get ready to run out the left and back to the ship. III. WALKTHROUGH A guide to the location of ALL the items. [D] indicates a detour which you should avoid if you want to beat 3:00. 1. MORPHING BALL, FIRST MISSLES Go down main shaft in Crateria all the way to the bottom, go through two doors to right and ride the elevator down to Brinstar. Go the left and get the MORPHING BALL. Go to the right through a door, shoot through the floor to find another door on the left and get the first MISSLES. 2. BOMBS Go back up the main shaft all the way to the top. Go to right morph into a ball and go down to a blue door. Go inside and cross the room to get to a pink door. Go inside and get the BOMBS from the statue. Kill the statue by shooting him then go back through the two doors, up and to the right and use your bombs to get through the rocks. Go to left, back down into the main shaft to the second door on the left to get MISSLES. Across the hall is the MAP and above is a SAVE place. [D] If you want more missles to kill Spore Spawm and Kraid you can go back down to the bottom of the exit shaft, go through the door and bomb through the floor on the platform near the entrance. to get MISSLES. Then continue to the right and take the elevator back to Brinstar, go through two doors, morph into a ball roll under the bricks and use the bombs to bounce up and get the MISSLES. Go back up out of the main shaft, bomb through the wall and go to left to get first ENERGY TANK. Go down the stairs shooting the space pirates with missles. At the bottom, the pink door on the right leads to TOURIAN and the Mother Brain. Ignore it for now, go through the blue door and down the elevator to Brinstar. Go in first door on right to get MISSLES by running across the top and falling down through. You can't get far in this room ntil you have the Speed Booster. Back in the hallway, the doors on the left lead to MAP, SAVE, and MISSLE RECHARGE (from top to bottom). 3. Get CHARGE BEAM Go through the door at the bottom right. Bomb through a wall and go through a door to enter the BIG PINK ROOM in BRINSTAR. Go down to bottom left to get a MISSLE and bomb through the floor where you see two little squares to find the CHARGE BEAM. 4. Kill SPORE SPAWN, get SUPER MISSLES Go up to top left, bomb through the wall and SAVE. If you are low on energy stand in front of the pipe in the floor and kill the creatures that come out. Go to the right through one door, and up through another one. Defeat SPORE SPAWN, go up, through a door, and fall through the floor at the right end of the room to get first SUPER MISSLE. Return to big pink room, go to bottom left, up over barrier, and through door to GREEN STEP PART of BRINSTAR. Go down steps, through door, and speed run (hold B) across top platform. Go through the door, walk off the ledge and fall down. We will call this the RED VERTICAL PART of BRINSTAR. Bomb through the floor near a yellow door (which leads to the GRAPPLING BEAM.) At the bottom through the green door on the left is an ENERGY RECHARGE. Go to the right through one room, then through another with two crab arms on the floor. The first can be shot with a supermissle, the second easily jumped over. Remember this room since the SPAZER is in the ceiling, accessible through a hole above the left door. The next three rooms are part of Maridia, then you will find an elevator that you can take down to Norfair. 5. Get HIGH JUMP BOOTS The part of Norfair you enter we will call the NORFAIR ENTRANCE SHAFT. Go to door on lower left get ENERGY TANK, HIGH JUMP BOOTS, MISSLE. Across the hall you can SAVE. 6. Get SPAZER Go back to the the first room with the crabs, get SPAZER in ceiling. 7. Defeat KRAID, get VARIA SUIT Go back to the right to the room with the elevator to Norfair, bomb the right wall to reveal a place to shoot a supermissle to get through. Jump up into the mouth. Go in the door, bomb through the left part of the floor. The door on the left at the bottom will not open until you defeat Kraid. Bomb through the right wall, and go up through a door. In the room with the four Keyhunters you can bomb through the floor on the right to reach a SAVE place or through the middle of the floor to continue your journey toward Kraid. Go through a door, run down a long hall, kill the mini Kraid and enter a room with spikes on the floor. Shoot the ceiling at the left end to go up to a MISSLE and ENERGY RECHARGE. Go across the room and shoot the eye door to find Kraid. Defeat Kraid, get Varia Suit. On the way out get an ENERGY TANK by shooting the ceiling in the room you can't enter on the way in. 8. SPEED BOOSTER Go to the Norfair entrance shaft, enter top right door. In the third pit in the second room you can find MISSLES. Continue through a thrid room and then enter the BIG GREEN BUBBLE ROOM. You can save in the door above the one you came in. Bomb through the floor on right to get MISSLES. Bomb through the middle of the floor and go through a maze of pipes. Go through the door on the floor. You are now entering the NORFAIR LOOP. Fall down. The first door on the right has a pipe in the floor where you can refill your energy and missles. Go in the door on the bottom right. You will pass through a long room, a short vertical one (that leads down to Ridley's Lair), and then enter another long one. When you get to the head morph into ball and bomb to go under it. Shoot through the ceiling and run up past the heads, go through the door, and ride the platforms under the spikes (morph into a ball). When you come out the door on the other side note the two doors on the right but don't go in them. You will return here later and enter the top one to get the wave beam. Go out the door at the top left, go in the door directly above where you come out, shoot through the ceiling, go up and pass through the door to the right. Speed run (hold B) to get to the end of the hall before the bridges collapse. Before you go in the door at the end shoot the ceiling to get MISSLES. Enter the room, get the SPEED BOOSTER and speed run back. Re-enter the big green room, go through the pipe maze again but this time go through the door at the left. Cross one room, then speed run through a long purple one, to enter the SAVE at the Norfair entrance tunnel. 9. ICE BEAM Enter top left door in the Norfair entrance tunnel, speed run under the closing doors, go through two doors, and climb up past the heads. Before you go into the door, morph into a ball, bomb through the floor, go down and into a hole in the right wall to get to a room, which leads to the ICE BEAM. Go out and around past the heads again (you can now freeze them) and through the door. Freeze the jumping creatures to get across the lava filled room, morphing into ball to get through the passage in the middle. Go through the door, fall through the floor several times and roll out through the ceiling to get to the door and get out. 10. POWER BOMBS Go back to red vertical part of Brinstar, freeze the creatures and jump on them to climb up, shoot through the floor by the yellow door, high-jump up a few ledges then freeze more creatures to climb to the top and enter a door to the right. Make your way through the room with plants that eat you, by freezing creatures in the gaps and walking across them. After you exit through the door, bomb through the floor and enter a door to get POWER BOMBS. Power bomb through the left wall to enter a room with MISSLES. 11. Kill CROCMIRE Go back to Norfair, enter the door that led to the ice beam. Power Bomb through the floor. On the wall opposite the first door you go through there are MISSLES hidden in the wall but you have to shoot fast and jump quickly to get them. [By jumping and pushing right arrow just after you go through the door you can stand on the ledge.] Go through the door at the bottom and speed run until you find a door in the floor. The second door on the right above is a SAVE. The door in the floor leads down to CROCMIRE. 12. GRAPPLING BEAM After killing Crocmire go to the left and through a door. At the bottom is a power up pipe and a SAVE. Go through the door in the floor then down. On the way down, get MISSLES through the pink door on right wall. After going through the door in the bottom, power bomb to get the blocks out of the way. Speed run, then push A at the end of the ramp to fly across a big room. Go through the door to get the grappling beam. [D] Go back to the big room and get the MISSLES in the upper right corner. Unless you are experienced in using the grappling beam don't try this. Make your way around the rest of the loop back to room next to the SAVE, grapple across the top of the room to get POWER BOMBS. Go back where you killed crocmire, grapple across and get an ENERGY TANK. Go up through the door in the ceiling. [D] If you go up and then out the top left door then you can grapple across to get some MISSLES. Don't go through the one-way green door though. 13. WAVE BEAM Go through the door on the right at the bottom, and then up through a door in the ceiling of the next room to enter the Norfair Loop. Continue around, past the elevator ride, then go through the top door on the right (mentioned earlier in 8.) to enter a big room. Jump on platforms and shoot a blue gate open to get some MISSLES. Grapple across to the WAVE BEAM. On the way back you can't get through the gate but if you walk on the spikes at the far left you can fall through and get out. Go back to the big green bubble room, grapple across the top, and enter the door at the top left to find MISSLES. Shoot a hole in the wall, then set off a power bomb to make an elevator appear. Go through a wall and then a door to get a RESERVE TANK and some MISSLES. You have to shoot the leftmost step to make them appear. Go back to the big green bubble room and exit Norfair as before to return to the SAVE place in the Norfair entrance shaft. 14. X-RAY SCOPE Go back to the red vertical part of Brinstar, go in the yellow door and get the X-RAY SCOPE. Before you try this you should use the energy recharge right below it. After getting the X-ray scope climb up and through the room with the Samus eating plants and then climb up. Before taking the elevator up out of Brinstar, take the door at the top left, power bomb over the last plant mouth and fall down through to get POWER BOMBS. On the way out you might want to SAVE in the last door on the right since the SAVE place in the Wrecked Ship will be broken until you kill Phantoom. 15. Kill PHANTOOM Go up and to the left to get to the WRECKED SHIP. Along the way you will get some MISSLES. After entering the wrecked ship you will come to a tall vertical room, which we will call the main hallway. Go down to the second landing, bomb through the wall and get the MISSLES before the power is on. Go to the bottom, bomb through a floor along the way, then going through a green door. Go to the right in the long room at the bottom, bomb through the wall, and open the eye door to get to Phantoom. When you are done and return back under the wall you can go to the left end of the room and see the MAP. 16. GRAVITY SUIT Go up out of the room, the first door on the left leads to SUPER MISSLES. Continue up ignoring one door on the right for the moment. The door on the right opposite where you entered is a SAVE. Continue up until you find a door in the ceiling. Enter the room and kill all the creatures to exit through the door on the left and go outside. Ignore the door directly beneath you. Go to the left along the ground until you can bomb through and go back to the right. There is a power-up pipe, which may come in handy. You will pass through three doors, then come to a long grappling beam part. The Chozo statue does not have its usual present, but morph into a ball and sit in its hand and it will take you to a door that leads to the GRAVITY SUIT. After getting the suit, go back through the door on the right, bomb through floor and make your way to the right to get MISSLES. Power bomb the statue then power jump through the hole at the right end of the hall to get a RESERVE TANK. Watch out for the hole in the floor in front of it! Go back to where you got the suit, go out the door to the left, fall down and return to main hallway. Go through lower door on right, through two rooms to find a stairway. Go up past a door on the right shoot through the ceiling and find a door on the left that leads to an ENERGY TANK. The door on the right is a scenic way of getting to Maridia, but I prefer to be boring and return the way we came. Return to the main hallway. Go down to where you bombed through the floor before killing Phantoom and bomb through the right wall. Enter a door and go through the right wall to get some SUPER MISSLES. Go back to the main hallway, go the top room, exit through the right door (again you have to kill everything) to get MISSLES. Return to the top room and exit on the left as you did to get the GRAVITY SUIT. Outside there are 3 MISSLES: (i) ride the top elevator (of 3) and shoot the wall, (ii) walk all the way to the left on the ground and use a supermissle to shoot ground, (iii) go down in the water then all the way to the left, shoot the wall then go through. 17. Killing DRAYGON Go back to the red vertical part of Brinstar and then down toward Norfair. Stop in the middle of the glass tunnel and set off a power bomb to enter Maridia. Down and to the right is a SAVE. Go up through a door and climb all the way to the top, stopping to admire those missles in the rocks on the way. Go in the door to enter the BIG ROOM, morph into a ball and roll down left wall to get a tunnel to the SUPER MISSLES. Go back out. The next goal is to reach the door on the top right. The easiest way is to go the rightmost hill on the bottom grapple onto the creature, swing over to the ledge. Push B to run and then A to jump high up. Grapple onto the last black hanging from the ceiling and then swing across. Go through the door to enter a pipe room. [D] From pipe room go up and through a door. Walk to right through wall to get MISSLES. Go up and to left through a door. Go to the left and up to get to another door, continue to the left and fall into a pit. Kill the jumping creature and fall through floor to get MISSLES and SUPER MISSLES. Go back to the pipe room. Bomb through floor, go to the right through a door, then power bomb through the floor. You are now in the BIG PIPE ROOM. On the left is a SAVE. You can speed run and power jump up through a narrow hole after the big open space to get MISSLES and SUPER MISSLES. Watch out for the floor in front of the super missles! Climb up the vertical grappling and go to the left up througha door. After a room where you have to speed run to get through some pipes, you will encounter BOTWOON, a snake like mini-boss. Kill him with powered up spazer hits to the head. In the next room you can speed run across and then return through the bricks to get an ENERGY TANK. Watch out for the hole right before you get to it! In the next tall room you can bomb through the right wall to reach a MISSLE RECHARGE. Go up and through a door at the top right. Make your way to the right of the long vertical grappling room. At the top right is a SAVE with an ENERGY RECHARGE behind it. Go back out of the SAVE and then in the door below. If you walk across the room the spikes won't hurt you and you will fall down to find the entrance to DRAYGON. On the right wall of the spike room you can find some MISSLES. 18. PLASMA BEAM Use the space jump to easily cross the big grappling room and re-enter the tall room below it. You can now go in the door up on the left wall. Continue through a large pink brick room and then through a smaller one. Pass through a small sand room where you can power up, and you will be underwater in a large room. Go to the left then up and to the right to come out of the water. Use the space jump and reverse directions in mid air to make your way up to a door high in the air. Go through the door and Space jump to the top of a narrow tall room. Go to the right through a small room with an egg mass in it, then enter a large room with Space Pirates. Drop down to the bottom right to get the PLASMA BEAM. Then kil them all to exit. 19. SPRING BALL Retrace your steps until you are underwater again then go the left and up out of the water and left to a green door. Fall down through a tube and end up in yet another pink pipe room. Bomb through the pipes on the right then go through the door on the right. Go through a large sand room then enter a small room with a single grappling block. Swing on it until it falls. Space jump up through the hole and then up the shaft. This is the easiest if you hold the arrow to the left and climb up the left wall. Go over the top and down to enter a door on the right. Go in. Power bomb to destroy the right wall but don't shoot the creature since you need him to remove the sand to lead you to the door to the room with the SPING BALL. Retrace your steps to where you emerged from the pipe. Go to the left through the other big sand room, through a small room, then in the next room go through a hole in the floor. Go through a door and through a room with jumping yellow creatures, fall through the next to last hole, go to the left through the door and you should recognize the broken glass where you entered Maridia. Go up through the door. [D] To get the missles in the rocks go through the door on the right. Open the green gate, kill all the creatures in the room, shoot open the door. Back up to the right, speed run and push down arrow right before you enter the door. Use the arrow to place yourself on the piece of grass on the right, then press A. If you are lucky you will sail up between the steps and hit the MISSLES. Go back up to big room you had to grapple across at the beginning of Maridia. Go in bottom right door. Go in third pit from right and walk through right wall. After passing through a door you will find a turtle who will help you get an ENERGY TANK. Turn on your grappling beam and be ready to grapple the block it sits on when you go up. In middle of the right wall of this room is a MISSLE. You need your friendly turtle to get this one too. [D] Go back to the big pipe room where you first saw vertical grappling. Bomb through the floor oon the far right then fall into the sand. You will come out in a room with POWER BOMBS and MISSLES. Get them and sink in the sand again to emerge in one of the sand rooms. Go the left like you did after getting the sping ball, and return again to the big pipe room. This time speed run across the first pit and fall into the second to come to a room with a RESERVE TANK and some MISSLES. It takes a tricky spring ball jump to get to them. 20. RETURN TO CRATERIA Go back to first big room and go out the door in the top. This looks like a dead end but you can bomb through the left wall at the top and exit in the red vertical part of Brinstar just above the SAVE. Go up and to the left to reach Samus' ship. If you enter it you will fill up on all items and energy and can SAVE. Up high and on the right a yellow door leads to POWER BOMBS. [D] Go down main shaft in Crateria then through door, bomb and go down to get MISSLES (if you didn't get them earlier). Go through door on right, ride elevator down to Brinstar. Go to right two rooms, shoot ceiling to get ENERGY TANK. Roll nder a big stack of bricks to collect MISSLES. Power bomb the bricks then power jump to go up. Go two rooms to the left to get 2 MISSLES (one hidden in base). Return to main shaft in Crateria. Sit on the lowest step that touches the right wall and bomb through. Freeze yellow creatures, speed run and power jump to get POWER BOMBS. Go to left to exit near top of shaft. Return to area of ship and power bomb through big flat part of left wall. Eventually you will come to an ENERGY TANK. Morph and bomb your way under it to keep going to reach another door. Go through and clear the area by shooting. You will see four columns of touch top blocks. As you fall down you can shoot your way through either wall to get MISSLES. The Player's Guide says that with the Spring Ball you cna get both on one trip, but ... Bomb through the floor, go down past the space pirates and take the elevator to Brinstar. Go in the top right door, run across the top and enter door at the far end to get a RESERVE TANK. Continue under the statue to enter another room with a MISSLE and bomb through the wall to find yet another MISSLE. Go back through the door, up through the ceiling and go to the left to find SUPER MISSLES. Go back to the hall way fall all the way down to the bottom. Power bomb through the floor at the bottom, go down and to the left through two doors to get an ENERGY TANK (watch out for the hole before it!) and go through the door to get SUPER MISSLES. Jump over the hole and come out the way you came in or [D] Fall through hole and go to right to meet space monkeys. Space jump or wall climb to top and get POWER BOMBS on right (through hole). If you get tired of this, stop at the first ledge and bomb your way out to the left. 21. RETURN TO BRINSTAR Go back up through the floor you power bombed, then go through the first door on the right to enter the pink part of Brinstar. Bomb through the wall. If you want to meet the ostrich that teachs you the power jump, speed run to open the hole in the floor. But the only thing here for your trouble is an ENERGY RECHARGE. Continue through the door into the big pink room. Go down and through the yellow door to get an ENERGY TANK. The blue door may look like it is one way the wrong way but you can shoot it open. Go back out, then up and grapple across (or space jump) to get MISSLES. Power bomb through the wall and shoot a supermissle to make a hole in the floor to get a POWER BOMB. Go to the right to re-enter the big pink room. Go down to where you got the charge beam, power bomb the statue and continue to get another ENERGY TANK. Continue to the green step part of Brinstar where there are POWER BOMBS behind the yellow door and MISSLES in the pipe flat against the wall. [D] Return to the room with the Keyhunters on the way to killing Kraid. Power bomb through right wall to find MISSLES. 22. Kill RIDLEY Go to the Norfair Entrance tunnel to the SAVE room, speed run through the long purple room, enter the Norfair loop but leave through the tall room in the middle of the bottom. Power bomb through a yellow door, and use the space jump to travel through the lava to go through the mouth and enter Ridley's Lair. On the other side of the elevator is a SAVE. Ride down and go to the left through a door to find a Chozo statue buried behind brinks. Use a power bomb to make the statue appear then sit in its hand to make the lava disappear. Go down, bomb through the floor, cross over and go through a door. The middle part of the floor with collapse so you have to space jump across to get the MISSLES. Fall through the floor, use a powered up Spazer to kill the jumping statue. Go through the door and get SCREW ATTACK. Return to the room where you killed the statue and break the ceiling to find SUPER MISSLES, perhaps witht help of a power bomb while you are up there. Go back through the door to where you got the screw attack and break the ceiling. The door on the right leads to an ENERGY RECHARGE. Go through the ceiling to find a second higher door on the right. After a long room, and a short one, you will enter a room where you have to use the screw attack to break through pillars. After a green gate and a door you come to a long climb where you have to break through the ceiling in the middle. [D] At the very top before you go in the door on the right you can power bomb through the ceiling and go to the left and down to find MISSLES. But watch out for the "touch top" blocks that form the bottom of the narrow tube that leads over to the room that contains them. When you go through the blue door you enter the big lava room. Fall down and then use the space jump to make your way along a backwards Z shaped path to the top right. [D] If you still have a lot of energy after you exit the lava room you can continue across the next room, through the door shoot the head with a super missle, go through the wall and down to find an ENERGY TANK. Take a good look on the way down because you will probably be coming out in the dark. Otherwise bomb through the floor go past three keyhunters and in the door on the right and SAVE. This is a good, but slow, place to power up. Come out of the save place, walk to the left edge of the ledge, shoot up and kill the first keyhunter. Then go up, collect what he left, and go up one more level. The two guys above will not come through the narrow gaps so you can kill then easily. Repeat until you have all the energy and missles you want and then go get the energy tank described in the previous paragraph. From the SAVE place go down bomb through the floor, drop down through a door, power bomb on top of the statue to make a metal elevator come out then morph and go to the left. The next room has big flying creatures and POWER BOMBS off to its left. Destroy the pedestal, go down on some spiky elevators and enter a door. Here you will meet two metal space pirates then can only be shot with a powered up plasma beam when they turn gold. You need two hits on each one to kill it. Keep only one on the screen at a time and they won't do the obnoxious trick of turning color exactly when they jump over the other one. Go through the door once they are dead and power up in the next room. One more easy room, then you see the eye door that means Ridley is next. After killing Ridley you can go through the door on the left and find the last ENERGY TANK in the wall on the right. Go back to save place then up and to the right toward where you got the energy tank, but this time climb up past the heads. At the top walk through the wall on the left instead of going through the door. Go to the left, then up and to the right to get MISSLES. Bomb through the wall and its maze of tubes (hint start and stay high) to reach a door which leads down to POWER BOMBS. Go out the door to the left, back through the wall again to the left and up but this time exit through the door on the left. Contiue to the left. As you start to climb, you can bomb on the first landing and go to the right to get MISSLES. Cotninue to zigzag up and exit the door at the top left. Making your way to the left you will emerge right above the exit from the WAVE BEAM room. 23. Kill MOTHER BRAIN Exit Norfair in the usual way back to the entrance shaft. Go up the elevator, enter Maridia, go out the top to upper Brinstar, go over to Samus' ship to get refilled and SAVE. If you are interested in looking for more items, make a copy of your game, since you can't get out of Tourian once you go in. Go across and down to the entrance to Tourian. After the statue sinks and you fall down, the first door on the right is a SAVE. To kill the Metroid larva, freeze them and then set off three power bombs. This has the advantage of killing all of them in an area at once. After the big larva sucks your energy down to one unit go down to the left and fill up at the ENERGY and MISSLE recharges behind the blue door before entering the pink one. Exiting that room leads to a vertical shaft where the room on the left in the middle is a SAVE and the bottom one leads to your date with the Mother Brain. 24. RUN TO THE SHIP IN UNDER THREE MINUTES After you kill the Mother Brain, you have 3 minutes to get out so run for your life. Get ready by standing next to the left wall. Most of the trip is pretty straightforward (when in doubt shoot it) but the following tips may be helpful: (i) in the first pipe room where you enter in the lower left, jump up into the first opening then go to the right (ii) in the second pipe room where you enter in the middle left, go up and over the top of the pipes then down. when you get to the floor go straight up, and then to the right (iii) when you enter the main shaft in Crateria don't try to open the door on the right, just go up. Don't follow the zigzag, but stay off center and jump 2-3 steps up at a time. If you have extra time you can go to the room where you first got the bombs and shoot the wall on the right to allow the gremlins and the ostrich (aka the etecoons and the dachola) to escape. You will see their ship fly off in the ending as a tiny dot going to the right while Samus' ship flies to the left.
