Thank you for visiting our pages. Please add comments to this guestbook...
Remember that Xavier is only online 2 to 4 pm EST (19:00 to 21:00 GMT) on weekdays with odd-numbered dates (i.e., alternating weeks of M-W-F and T-Th) and that this schedule may vary somewhat to allow Xavier to assist in other research. All obvious spams to this guestbook will be deleted.

My two children (Felix and, yes, Xavier) really like Xavier the robot. We found out about it in Muse magazine and thought we would visit. My son Xavier, who had decided to change his name to David, has changed his mind now that there is a robot named after him. Any chance of a Felix in the future?

My first encounter with Xavier was while I was eating lunch in Wean Hall and
he ran by me. Then in class I told him to come (5419) and
say hello. Unfortuanately he went to 5419A instead B -
which is where we were, but Xavier is very cool nonetheless.

Hello,
This is more of a question for you... How could I design
a device using a motor to drop down and pick up a rock. This
has to be under 30 dollars. If you have a solution could you
tell me. I am very impressed with your works and would like
to learn more.
Thanks for your time

I think this website is great! I am currently trying to devolp a robot so this website helped me with some of
the like hardware stuff. I think we should be able to see and hear what Xavier is
doing in real time via RealAudio. Also he should do more functions
such as;picking up and reading induvidul pieces of paper, picking up and zomming in on a object, and such(etc...).
Also on Xavier's laptop screen it should blink colors and display what it's saying and/or the action it's
peforming. Xavier should be able to go outside and then transmit what the weather looks
like and the weather conditions(reletavie humidity, tempature, wind speed, wind deriction,
perciption gauge,etc...)and it should tell us where it is(like Berkely,California). It should
transmit the weather stuff to this website.
That's all my suggestions,
Timmy G

I think the site is great and the robot program is a wonderful idea. I found out about your site through Odyssey magazine. I think, however, a few changes could make the site even better. Being able to control him in times outside of the 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. EST range would be nice, though I understand why it is impractical. What about screening your guestbook to delete expletives and junk messages? I think using RealVideo to show us live video of what Xavier is seeing, saying, and hearing would be interesting. It would also be nice if we could have Xavier get on the elevator and go to another floor of the building. Perhaps, when a person tells Xavier to do something, such as tell a joke or say hello, he could get a sound clip of Xavier performing this action. Maybe the site could be changed so that someone could instruct Xavier to interact with a specific person. Could voice digitization be worked so Xavier could be instructed to say something specific by a user (what is said would have to be screened, of course)? It's a wonderful site!

After reading some of the other entries, I had to write you again. First off, Xaiver's jokes are not funny. The first time I saw it, it really freaked me out. It's not every day that you see a moving garbage can comming at you tell you cheesy jokes. The second thing is Xaiver's trek through the halls of Wean needs to be updated badly. Things have changed alot there. I would also like to see more video footage of Xaiver's adventures. Thanks!

It sure is fun stopping by every once and a while to see
what Xavier is up to. I cannot remember how I came across
Xavier's web site but I do remember the first time I heard
something back from a request I has asked of it. I had
forgotten I had put in the request. It was like opening
up a Christmas gift.

I cannot wait until Xavier starts to broadcast a realaudio
show of what it is up to. This sounds like a fun project
to be on. I wish we had something like Xavier back when
I was in school. All we had were a couple of robot arms.

I like the bad jokes. I think it would be funny to see him run down a poor scoolgoing guy and joke him to death. Unfortunately, Xavier was not responding any of the times i logged on. Please improve his power to be like that of Amelias.

I read about the Xavier project in muse magazine. I was very surprised to find out that it's been running for about 2 years! I also think Amelia is cool. You should make a robot like ED 209 from RoboCop that walks.

I really like the idea of Xavier, especially that he tells bad jokes, takes pictures and requests. My mother also loves the idea and if she had a Xavier, she would probably work it every day. Does it vacuum?

I think the Xavier program is cool. i think you should have his controlled hours from about 2:00 untill 7:00. I enjoyed trying to annoy people to death with his Knock Knock jokes.
I think you should have a knock knock joke that says: Xavier beer bottles, they'll be worth it some day!

PS, get a humorist to think of some jokes.

The other day I visited your page while Xavier was in motion. That was a hoot! I check on Xavier every day and send him around your building all the time, but watching him cruise down the hall in near-real time is fantastic. And, yes, you should also start working on a terminator model programmed to go after multinational industrial polluters. Resistance will be futile! They will be assimilated!

um.. i wanted to make Xavier go to my firend's classroom and take a picture of her.. the problem is that
if its on a different floor.. i can't make it go anywhere else becuase its on a different floor
so maybe if you could add that function... make it go where ppl actually want it to go
that would be nice :) and user friendly

I couldn't find where to add jokes, so here goes!

Xavier once went rolling down the street. Several men
were standing ahead of him, blocking his path. The robot
politely slid to the side of them and went on.
Then there were three men ahead of him. They wouldn't move,\
and when Xavier tried to get by, they just moved in front
of him. When he asked them why they wouldn't budge, they
replied, tell us a joke, or we wont let you by. So Xavier
told them a knock knock joke. When the men moved out of his
way he said to himself, "I'll remember that one, it's a life
Xavier" :) har har har.

He is fascinating as well as funny.(Great minds can achieve great things)
Keep up the good work. I am going to be a HS senior in the fall and I am looking for an university.

I just want to say that I'm really impressed by Xavier.I'm building a robot of my own too.Don't know jet how I'll call him.
I was wondering if you could please send me some plans of Xavier's circuits.
You probably can't but ther eis no harm in asking, right!
I hope my robot turns out to be a least half of what Xavier is!

Xavi wich is the nickname for all the people called Xavier,

My husband, Dave, and 10-year-old son, Devin, went to the talk
you had at ConFluence in Pittsburgh. I just saw Xavier in the
hall. It took me back to my college days when a group of

I am very interested in what you are doing with robotics and I would LOVE to do some experiments of my own. I have two problems. First of all, I own what is essentially an IBM XT and secondly, I don't know how to interface a computer to a robot. What I need is information (plans) on how to link up series of switches for the robot to a computer and what commands in BASIC would activate different switches. I hope you could find the time to reply. I searched at our local library and could find nothing.
Sadly, my computer is NOT on the net and I am using the library's connection. Could you PLEASE mail me? Thank you very much. Jerry Zink 656 N. Lyle Ave. Elgin, IL 60123
