Car Rental Information

For those of you wishing to rent a car to drive to Breckenridge, or for any other part of your stay during NIPS, Avis Rent a Car has provided us with group rate pricing. If you would like to drive to Breckenridge, you can arrange to pick up a car in Denver and drop it off at the airport. Special weekend rates are in effect (details below) that are extremely reasonable.

Details

We have arranged for group rates for car rentals during NIPS, provided by Avis Rent a Car. To obtain the group rates, you need to supply Avis with the Avis Worldwide Discount (AWD) number:

J098880 Reservations may be made by calling the Reservation and Information Desk at 800-331-1600, or visiting the Avis web site (www.avis.com). When making a reservation, the location code for Avis nearest the Marriott is DN2. The location code for the airport Avis is DEN. The Avis location in Denver is at 1900 Broadway, approximately 3 blocks from the Marriott City Center hotel which is at 1701 California Street.

The following is based upon Rick's own experience in reserving a car through this discount program, and is not reflected in the official material sent to him about the group rate program:

There is no extra fee to pick up the car in Denver and drop it off at the airport. (eg, drive to Breckenridge from Denver, and from Breckenridge directly to the airport.) This is not reflected in the official information provided by Avis.
There is a separate airport fee when the car is picked up at the airport. (Regardless of the drop-off location.)
Taxes on car rentals in Denver run at 11.3%.

Weekend Rate Special

For pick-ups after 12:00pm Thurs (Dec 2) and drop-offs before Sunday 11:59pm (Dec 5) a special weekend rate applies. Intermediate cars start at 22.99 daily, with a minimum two day rental. (25.59 with taxes.) Based on my conversation with the Avis representative, these weekend rates are guaranteed as well. If anyone has problems receiving them, please let me know. Avis terms and conditions:
1) The above rates are guaranteed. Return to the same location or
additional surcharges may apply. All rates include unlimited free
mileage.

2) Rates available one week before to one week after the dates of the meeting.

3) Should a lower qualifying rate become available, Avis is pleased to
present a 5% discount on that rate OR if a car size is selected that is
not available above, Avis will discount the best available rate by 5%.
The attendee must use the assigned Meeting Avis Discount Number and meet
Avis rate requirements to erceive the discount. (Rate discounts are
available at all corporate and participating licensee locations.)

4) The above rates do not include taxes, LDW, PAI, refueling service
charges, airport related fees, drop charges, similar optional service
fees, or any other extra service fees not specifically nicluded in the
rates. No discount shall apply to such charges. Renter must meet Avis'
age, driver, and credit requirement.
