Neural Information Processing Systems

United Airlines is offering airfares to NIPS attendees 5--10% off any published fare. (NIPS also receives a modest credit, which is reinvested in the meeting.) Book your reservation by calling the United conference desk at (800) 521--4041; the ticket can be mailed to you or issued by your local travel agent. You must give our meeting ID code: 557FR.

The Denver Mariott City Center is easily accessible by taxi (approximately $30 each way) or local airport shuttle services. SuperShuttle offers a conference rate of $12.50 each way. Mention NIPS to obtain this rate. The SuperShuttle desk is located in the main terminal of the airport, or you can phone them for information at (800) 258--3826.

Travel Support

Limited funds will be available to support the travel of young investigators, post-doctoral fellows, and graduate students to NIPS. Awards will be based on both merit and need. The amount of aid will generally not exceed $400 per participant; increased amounts may be available for participants traveling from overseas. Apply as soon as possible after notification of acceptance or rejection of submitted papers (mid-August) by sending (1) a one page resume, and (2) a up-to-one page justification (including whether applicant is an author of a submission to NIPS, status of the submission, and whether author will be the presenter if submission was accepted) to: NIPS Foundation, c/o Institute for Neural Computation, UCSD, 9500 Gilman Drive, La Jolla, CA 92093--0523. Deadline for receipt of applications is September 20, 1996. Notification will be sent by October 15, 1996. Conference registration is not covered by the travel awards.

Graduate students may also contact the Local Arrangements Chair, Marijke Augusteijn (mfa@antero.uccs.edu), about the possibility of doing volunteer work at the meeting in exchange for a registration fee waiver.

Workshops

There are three transportation options. (1) Tour busses will be going from Denver to Snowmass and back. See the Snowmass Store for up-to-date info. (2) Rental cars and vans are available from several car rental agencies which have offices in downtown Denver. Hertz, Avis, and Value are all located near the Denver Marriott. (3) United Airlines operates a shuttle service between the Denver International Airport and the Aspen Airport. We do not have current rates for these flights but they may be competitive with the van shuttle service. The United discount applies to these flights as well.

There is a free shuttle service between Snowmass and Aspen, and between Snowmass and the Aspen Airport.
