Instructions to Authors
Now that the conference is over, we need to very quickly assemble the
final camera-ready papers into the final proceedings. A lot of work
needs to be done over a very short time between the arrival of the
papers and the submission of the whole package to MIT Press; please
help us by reading and carefully following these instructions.
1) Title, Running Title, Authors and Index Entries: If the title,
authors or running title for your paper have changed from that which
you submitted via email, send the new information by December 23,
1998 via email to David.Cohn@acm.org. Please review the index at the
end of this program and email any changes in your index entries by
December 23, 1998.
2) Author Agreement Form: At least one author must complete and sign
an author agreement form which appears on the last page of the program
book and on the NIPS home page (http://www.cs.cmu.edu/Groups/NIPS/).
If at all possible, please include (all) the form(s) with the final
camera-ready copy. The author agreement form is due by January 5,
1999. (We have changed from requiring a form from all authors to
requiring only one form from one of the authors. Our apologies for
any inconvenience resulting from the earlier requirement. As well,
the current deadline is an extension from the original January 4
deadline.)
3) Camera-ready Copy: Your camera-ready copy must be received by
January 5, 1999. (This is an extension from the original January 4
deadline.) To avoid delaying the publication of the proceedings, your
submission must be exactly seven pages long and must adhere to the
NIPS style. Use the official NIPS .sty or .rtf file and resist
temptations to redefine parameters such as \textheight and \textwidth
to give yourself more space. Stay with the required font sizes. The
same rules constrain every submission; if you do not follow the
formatting instructions your paper will be sent back to you; it will
only result in more work for yourself and the publication chair, and
will cause unwelcome delays. A description of the style and links to
style files are available on the NIPS home page:
http://www.cs.cmu.edu/Groups/NIPS/
4) On the back of each page, at the lower right corner, write in LIGHT
PENCIL the code under which your paper was presented at the conference
(such as AA35 or VS10), followed by a "/", followed by the page
number from 1 to 7. This code helps to relocate any stray page in its
proper place in the book.
5) Do not include in the front page of the paper any statement about
"To appear in ...." or about the NIPS category that the paper
belongs to. Do not force page numbers to appear. Remember: it is a
camera-ready manuscript!
6) A single copy suffices. Please send a copy that has been printed
out on a single-side format, and DO NOT staple it. It is best to avoid
paperclips; they tend to leave marks on the paper. The paper must
arrive in good shape; it helps if you enclose it within a couple of
thick layers of cardboard. Send it and your author agreement form to:
7) Please note that the correct citation for NIPS 11 is:
Advances In Neural Information Processing Systems 11: Proceedings of the
1998 Conference, Michael S. Kearns, Sara A. Solla, and David A. Cohn, eds.,
MIT Press, Cambridge, MA, 1998.
