I have bowed to the inevitable, and will be carrying the Essentialist
Explanations (currently in their 5th edition, thanks to many wonderful
contributions) at http://www.ccil.org/~cowan/essential.html .
For newcomers, this is a list (now sorted by language group)
of explanations of the form "Language X is essentially language Y ..."
