Sadly, this phrase is so often misunderstood that it has 
become useless.
If one uses it with the correct meaning, most listeners
will be baffled by it.
If one uses it with the corrupted meaning, one sounds
illiterate.
I fear it will have to be abandoned, at least until 
*nobody* remembers what it means.
