Personally, I reckon the best interpretation of brain function belongs
to Daniel C Dennett in his book "Consciousness Explained".  A nice
cognitive approach, without any of this metaphysical malarkey...His
"multiple drafts" model of consciousness sounds convincing to me: sits
nicely with physiological and computational data, and doesn't appeal to
anything non-physical...

It's *really* worth reading.
