"We" clearly refers back to "We Americans."  I've never heard of anyone
of any national background saying [einstein] in my entire life.
(Please note that I'm using a modified version of the system for
transcribing IPA in ASCII listed in the FAQ.  That FAQ actually
recommends the transcription ['aInstaIn], which I consider unneces-
sarily narrow).)
