I still believe that the above is wrong.  Take the following maze:

  |   |        |   |
  |   |        |   |   Although it's not a very complicated maze,
  |   -----    |   |   if one puts one's hand in the 'inside' wall
  |       |----|   |   the robot will _never_ find it's way out.
