Status on the Motorola GPS engine group purchase:

Greetings, all!

This is a quick note to let all of you who have responded to me that I am
actively pursuing this venture. Two weeks ago, I telephoned Motorola and
spoke with a woman who indicated she would send out information. Said
information has not yet arrived.

This morning, I spoke with the Sales Manager for the GPS core product, Oncore.
She is sending me a price quote for the 100+ unit order, along with specs.
As soon as it arrives, I will post to these newsgroups. I will also be
obtaining price quotes for the software which accompanies these units, which
is to be used for DGPS and other things.

As of the writing of this memo, there are "orders" for 67 units, with
"possibles" for ten others. I have several requests from overseas, which is
not expected to be a problem. The sales manager is sending me information as
to which areas have export restrictions, which I will also include along with
the specifications. She also said some recent military evaluations indicated
that this engine is the only one they found acceptable, and is sending that
report information, as well.

For those of you who are reading about this for the first time, I am
coordinating a group purchase of Motorola GPS core engines, collecting names
for those who would like to participate in said activity. The rumor going
around was that these $450 (single quantity) engines could be had for $150 in
100-unit lots. I have no idea as to the actual price, but it is "in the
Mail", according to Motorola.

If you are interested, send mail with the quantity in which you are
interested. When "critical mass" has been reached, I will inform all parties
which have submitted their names of this fact, as well as post it to the
newsgroups. At this time, monies will be deposited in an account, which will
be used to pay for the purchase. When all monies have been deposited, the
order will then be placed.

Again, I'll post any information on this when it becomes available.

Regards,

Tommy
