I'm interested in finding out what the current situation is with using
UltraSonic Senors for 3D positioning. I know LOGITECH produce a 3D mouse
whereby positional info. is related to the host comp. in terms of X,Y,Z
and pitch,roll and yaw.

I was wondering if anybody had any experiences with using such sensors for
achieving accuracies/repeatabilities of around +- 1mm ? Are there any
papers relating to such a subject, tackling issues such as interference by
external sources and limitations of an ultrasonic system.

I would appreciate any help and I can be contacted on
