Hi.

The third BEAM Robot Games were held at the CNE Automotive complex last
weekend under very constrained conditions. Around 40 international
roboticists had to compete hurredly on the Sunday as Friday and
Saturday were dominated by the unrelated and overly loud Canada First
event. Best overall robot went to Simon Frazer University out of
Vancouver for DogBot, which, I was delighted to see, was together and
functional after being only pieces at last years games.

It was an experiment to see if a Hobby Show venue would be the proper
setting for such an event. The conclusion, for many reasons, is no. I
apologize that the company that licensed the games did not get the guide
out in time, or advertize, or obtain sponsorship. I'd make promises
for next year but at this point, I have no details.

Finally, let me extend a warm thanks to all those that volenteered
their time to the show, especially Miller, Dave Hrynkiw and Cheryl for
their enthusiasm, stage presence, and robot herds. Practice is
certainly making perfect.

Finally, a big thanks to Ed Spike of the University of Waterloo for
providing the arenas to run the games.

Tuesday's (Mar 8) New York Times apparently has pictures and further
details for those interested. Detailed results and info about next
years games will be posted at a later date.

Is all.
