Who developed the first 3 wheel syncro gear driven wheel arrangement for 
robotics? I've seen belt driven systems but not gear driven ones.

Wheels rotate all to the same direction and then turn and go forward or 
backwards causing omnidirectional motion.

Has anyone out there designed such a robot base that would mind sharing 
some of the details?
