The voice recognition chip that Radio Shack used to sell
(VCP-200) should still be available from:

    Voice Control Products.

I bought an upscale version of their voice recognition system
last year, and they were selling the chips then for about $14.

To recap, this chip (the VCP-200) has a small fixed vocabulary
that is speaker independant. There was a write up in Radio Electronics
a year or two ago on the chip, and Radio Shack sold them briefly.

I've never tried the VCP-200 itself, and I'd be interested in
hearing from anyone who has success with it!
