If you want little, cheap board-level machines, I suggest subscribing
to Circuit Cellar INK (215-630-1914 voice, 203-871-1988 data). Ads
for many, many vendors of little board-level machines appears. Here
are the ones under $100 each.

      "BASIC Stamp single-board computer. $49" 1-916-721-8217.
      Runs BASIC. Uses PIC 16C56. 1" x 2". Development system $149.
Draws 2mA run, 20uA sleep. Parallax Inc. [Low-end applications]

      "Embedded PC module. $99. 8MHZ 8088 compatible. 256K RAM, (to 640K)
       32K BIOS ROM, keyboard/speaker ports, 3.6" x 3.8". 416-245-3324.
Megatel Computer Corp. [At least development tools are easy to get]
       They also have a 386sx board, 4" x 6" , more expensive.

      "8051SBC - 8+ parallel I/O, 2 RS232 serial ports" $99 each.
HiTech Equipment Corp. 619-566-1892. [Seems a bit high for an 8051]

"80C52 Embedded Controllers with all the extras - start at $100"
      Iota Systems 702-831-6302.

"Economical Single Board Computers $38.00 plus 2.90 s/h"
"8051AH based SBCs, assembled and tested, with RS232 interface"
"Socketed EPROM, large breadboard area, FREE programming software"
      Suncoast Technologies 904-596-7599

I have tried none of these. Ask them, not me, for further info.
