I seem to remember several years ago Byte magazine I think had a wandering
baloon robot in it.  It could have been some other mag tho.  It used a Polaroid
flat battery and sonar with a single chip computer to keep the machine some 
given distance from the floor and from hitting the walls (at least near the bottom
of the baloon where all the instrumentation was. ... Jack
