Yes - I had to determine color several years back when
separating colored ping-pong balls as a demonstration device.
The solution was three photocells with appropriate color
filters (one for each cell) in a triangular configuration.  The
unit was housed in a small box with lens for control.  The
filters were obtained from Kodak in 2" squares.  There is a
complete series of these filters available, so check out the
handbook and select the spectral response you want.
