You can do this with a 4116 Ceramic or Cerdip type 16k dram chip.
The metal cover on the chip can be removed with some heat and
pliers.  Sharply focusing an image on the die area under the 
opened window causes the lighted capacitors (pixels) to bleed
off faster. If this chip with a focusing lens is installed in 
a regular memory type circuit, you can grab a binary image
by setting all bits in it to 1 and then reading them. The
amount of time that one waits between writing and reading 
controls the threshold of the binary image.
