The Shadow air muscle is a compliant linear actuator constructed
from a rubber tube covered with a plastic netting.  When the
tube is inflated with low pressure compressed air the netting
shortens in length like a human muscle, hence the name air
muscle.

Muscles are available in diameters ranging from 9 to 60 mm in
diameter.  The muscles have to be stretched to work so we all
measurements are given assuming the muscle is fully stretched.
We produce 3 standard length muscles, 10cm,15cm and 30cm.
However these are the mass produced muscles, we in fact can
manufacture muscles of lengths from 5cm to, so far, 3 meters.
A 30 mm diameter muscle can lift 210 kg at a pressure
of 4 bar.
