LECTURESHIPS IN COMPUTER SCIENCE

The Department is continuing its rapid growth and intends to appoint four new lecturers. 
New research themes are being developed, linked with innovative teaching at undergraduate 
and postgraduate levels. 

The department has a lively research culture and was rated grade 5A in the 1996 Research 
Assessment Exercise. Its major research activities are currently in computer architecture, 
multimedia (including vision, image processing and graphics), declarative programming and 
machine learning. 

The department has strong links with the computer, communications, microelectronics and 
media industries. It is a partner in PACT, a research centre in computer architecture and 
software, and hosts the Safety Systems Research Centre. A major new initiative on 
multimedia computing and content creation, supported within the Technology Foresight 
Programme, will start in April 1997.
