I don't know about the EE Hale credit for the first conceptualised
artifical satellite, but I think old Arthur is generally credited
with inventing the concept of _communications_ satellites.  IIRC
his original scheme was for 4 satellites located 90 degrees apart
at the geosynchronous orbital altitude.
